The Embassy of Malaysia in Washington DC, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries of Malaysia, has just officiated the Malaysia Food Fest 2020 in the United States. The month-long event includes the launch of the first-ever YouTube cooking channel devoted to Malaysia’s famous fusion cuisine. The Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency, Ambassador Azmil Zabidi, opened the event at the Satay Club restaurant in Washington DC, where the first episode of the series was filmed.

Additional episodes of the series will be filmed at Seasons Kitchen in Los Angeles and in New York where MK International, Malaysia’s leading exporter of “Musang King” durian will showcase a dish that includes durian. The Taste of Malaysia YouTube Series will also feature dishes like Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang, Curry Laksa, Sambal Shrimp with Petai, Chicken Curry with Roti Jala, Pulut Panggang, Cucur Badak, and Durian Loaf, among others. In addition to introducing Americans to Malaysian cooking and cuisine, the YouTube channel will also serve to promote imports of Malaysian food products.

Currently, there are more than 190 different Malaysian food products on sale in the United States and they can be found on a
dedicated Facebook page. To add to the publicity, Malaysian rapper, Taseltech, produced a full-length music video which is also on the YouTube channel. Local chef James Wozniuk, who will be participating in the series, opened Makan - his second restaurant in DC - earlier this year. A huge fan of Malaysian dishes, Wozniuk has been traveling to Malaysia for years to learn the open secrets about its preparation.

“It’s astonishing that more people don’t know about Malaysian food given how amazing it is,” he says. “I’m looking forward to seeing it get more exposure and I can’t wait to share the experience I love with everyone who appreciates great food.”
