Watch the Northern Lights in Bed at Finland's Aurora Wilderness Camp

Off the Map Travel wants to optimize your chances to see the Northern Lights, so together with local experts, they predict the area for best Aurora viewing and locate the two sleeping huts at the new Aurora Wilderness Camp based on the winter forecast. From the warm interior of these mobile accommodations with their see-through ceilings, lie back and enjoy a distinctive Arctic holiday.
 
The wilderness surrounding the Finnish village Kilpisjärvi is known for its remote, silent and uninterrupted tundra. Away from manmade light pollution, the Aurora Wilderness Camp takes advantage of the darkness and utilizes its mobility to optimize viewing of the Northern Lights. Guests enjoy the comfort of a sleeping hut while looking upward through the transparent roof to watch the Aurora Borealis beyond. Each hut sleeps two and includes a gas stove, double bed, table, heater, toilet, snowshoes and kick sleds.
 
The overnight program begins with a guided transport by snowmobile to the mobile campsite, now positioned in a location based on current Aurora predictions. Learn to make a campfire and grill sausages for dinner. Then it’s time to kick back, soak up the silence, and await the appearance of the Northern Lights. Finnish snacks and hot drinks are provided for the evening’s watch with a hot breakfast the following day. This project is supported by Interreg Nord and the Visit Arctic Europe project, developing travel to the Arctic Europe region.
