Discover Buellton hosted an invite-only media dinner to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the award-winning movie Sideways which was shot in the area and brought much fame to local wineries as well as a welcome spike in wine-drinking too. Held at the creative H Club space in Hollywood, the terrace restaurant made for a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy fresh summer fare and wines poured by Hitching Post, which is the restaurant featured in the movie as well. Frank Ostini, owner of Hitching Post, and filmmaker Michael Landon as well as Kathy Vreeland, executive Director of Discover Buellton, shared stories of the film production experience and the attention the movie invited to the city and its surrounding attractions. Sideways has had such a big impact on tourism in Buellton that there are still visitors every week coming into the visitors center asking for directions to Ostrichland, Hitching Post and the wineries that Miles and Jack visited in the movie. A movie screening followed in the private theater room at the H Club and both Ostini and Landon fielded questions from guests at a Q&A moderated by Vreeland.
