Huckleberry Bakery & Café’s 10th Anniversary is coming up on Monday, February 18, and the team is cooking up some fun specials to celebrate! If you didn’t know, Huck is only one arm of a family of restaurants that come under the Rustic Canyon brand including Sweet Rose Creamery, Milo & Olive, Cassia, Tallula’s and Ester’s – all pretty well-known in the city thanks to the winning team behind these culinary endeavors.
Huckleberry was actually the first restaurant in the Rustic Canyon Family that co-owners Josh Loeb and baker Zoe Nathan opened together. The idea for Huckleberry started off as a series of Saturday morning breakfast pop-ups at Rustic Canyon, with Zoe’s dad even chipping in by flipping pancakes and whipping up egg frittatas.
At the time, people thought they were crazy to open a bakery in West LA. But there were lines out the door for Zoe’s messy fried egg sandwiches, her dad’s pancakes (he still helped cook during those opening days), and an overflowing pastry case filled with cinnamon sugar doughnuts, blueberry cornmeal cakes and more. Doesn’t that just give you such goose bumps? So feel good! So to celebrate, they’ve got some fun offerings…here’s the deal: From February 11-18 - Director of Bakery Operations Laurel Almerinda, who has been there since the beginning, is baking shortbread cookies in the shape of 1s and ginger cookies in the shape of 0s to get everyone in the birthday spirit. On February 18 - As a thank you to all the incredible guests who have supported the team over the past 10 years, which, quite frankly, in Los Angeles, is a huge achievement, Josh and Zoe are passing out free mini sprinkle doughnuts in the morning and slices of birthday cake in the afternoon. Get a treat before they run out! Chef and Co-Owner Erin Eastland is bringing back some classic dishes from their early days like the brisket sandwich, roasted peppers and burrata sandwich, roasted half chicken and potato plate and the “secret” off-menu favorite - The Egg Huck Muffin! You now have the inside scoop on their celebrations – go forth and rejoice, you are welcome!
