As the years come and go, so do the many travel trends that grip the planet. I might travel a lot, but there are so many exciting travel trends it can be hard to know which one to pick! Here are just five of the new trends for 2019!
1. Going solo
Some of us would run at the thought of jetting abroad on our own, while others would jump at the chance for some time alone. Now, it seems as though heading off on your own could be one of the biggest trends set to grip 2019. The best bit? It no longer has to be as scary as we once thought, thanks to the travel companies that are fully prepared for solo travellers. Airlines are more accommodating, and some hotels even have special solo traveller rooms that aren’t down a long, dark corridor. Emailing a copy of your passport to yourself and learning not to pack too much are just some tips for anyone about to jet off abroad on their own for the first time. Who knows, you could soon find yourself starting a grand new adventure. 2. Heading off the beaten track Many of us have seen photos of the places people have visited millions of times before. In fact, all those snaps can make it feel as though we have already experienced them for ourselves. 2019 isn’t the time to follow the crowd. No, according to The Secret Traveller blog at 1Cover, it’s all about heading to the destinations that no one knows about. Columbia, Japan, and even some places in Italy can offer up some incredible vacations that are off the beaten track. 3. Conserving the planet Many of us have learned how to take better care of ourselves over the years. Keeping up with a wellness routine while on vacation has become a huge part of many people’s trips – and so has looking after the planet. Many people now book vacations that allow them to help clear up the ever-growing plastic in the ocean, or perhaps volunteer at orphanages and animal sanctuaries to help give back to the planet. Thankfully, people are now more aware than ever about the importance of conserving the planet while protecting vulnerable species, and social media has helped many of us inspire others with our jet setting adventures. Ethical travel!
4. Taking a dark trip
While many of us are trying to become more positive, it seems as though there’s something we can’t resist when it comes to dark tourism. No, not traveling to places with little sunlight, but the ones where some of the darkest moments in history have occurred. Did you know that you can visit the Kumsusan Memorial Palace of the Sun in North Korea? This is the home of the infamous leader Kim Il-sung where he is now preserved in a mausoleum. That’s not all. Visitors can also take a trip to Chernobyl, the home of the 1986 nuclear explosion, amongst many other dark locations, as they aim to satisfy their curiosity for learning all about the darker moments in our history. 5. Walking vacations Many of us have become more eco-conscious than ever, and it seems as though 2019 is no exception. Now, we can combine our love of staying fit and healthy with our need to help look after the planet by using as little transport as possible. Many walking holidays involve famous trails where visitors can stay at hotels during their various checkpoints, while some travelers love to map out their own route as they take in the incredible scenery on foot. It’s a win-win situation! 2019 looks as though it’s going to be a year with plenty of exciting travel trends. What are your thoughts? Do you think anything else is about to become the next-best way to travel this year? Be sure to let me know in the comments.
