It is International Women's Day today, and while it is a fantastic occasion to support and encourage around the world, recognizing the achievements of women at all times is important. Honoring and assisting organizations that support the welfare of workingwomen is one way. Women all over the world have earned the right to hold their head high with pride, but there's still a lot more work to be done. The theme this year for International Women's Day is #BalanceforBetter to bring light to the efforts of gender balance and equality all over the world. No matter how much progress the women's movement has made, a lot more can be done, change is still warranted in many sectors and societies, and we have strides to be made toward the day when we do not have to engage in a discussion about why men are paid more than women for the same role.
Organizations that are working for women's welfare globally
School Girls Unite : This nonprofit puts the focus on making certain that girls from various countries get the education that they deserve. Many countries have a sharp decline in education for females and School Girls Unite is working to change that norm.
Every Mother Counts : Providing grants worldwide, Every Mother Counts focuses on getting proper medical care and treatment for women all over the world. Working moms face many road bumps personally and professionally so the work done here is vital.
Dress for Success : Finding a job is stressful enough but clothing worries shouldn't be an issue for interviews. Dress for Success has created a way to use donated items to help clothe women all over to be able to have professional clothing to reach their career goals.
Every Woman Foundation : Every Woman Foundation is an international organization that tries hard to offer events in the community for females to be a part of. Located in several countries and growing, their focus on networking and connecting women worldwide is important.
Equality Now : The goal of Equality Now is to provide awareness of sexual violence against women, human trafficking, and other serious issues women are facing each and every day. A just world for women and girls is their goal.
Los Angeles Commission on the Status of Women : Relaunched in 2015, LACSW puts its focus on gender equality in the L.A. area. One main area they target is to ensure that all women are able to have an active role in the city and local government.
There are so many other organizations working for better condition for women and working women in their workplace and in society and their respective communities so try to support a local charity or organization in your area that also puts focus on supporting the growth and equality of women. If everyone can become educated on the issues at hand that women are still facing each and every day, many more people will be educated on the hurdles that women are still trying to overcome. I know there are events worldwide to mark the occasion but would love to hear in the comments if your city or workspace or any other group is doing something specific to honor the day and women everywhere.
